Noticing Yan Qi, who had suddenly appeared behind her and blocked the fireball, Bai Yuling instantly breathed a sigh of relief.
She quickly dodged the attack from the black specter in front of her, putting a safe distance between them, and moved to Yan Qi’s side.
“Are you alright, Chief Bai? I hope I’m not too late,” Yan Qi said, watching Bai Yuling approach. Unaware of what had happened during her absence, she instinctively asked the question.
“Yes, you’re actually just in time,” Bai Yuling replied, her gaze fixed on the black specter not far away as she responded to Yan Qi.
After a brief pause, realizing that none of the Special Affairs Bureau members, including herself, were a match for the people from the Necromancer Association, Bai Yuling thought for a moment and asked Yan Qi, “Miss Si, are you confident you can deal with the Necromancer Association member?”
“A Necromancer Association member? Is there one here?” Yan Qi, who knew the Necromancer Association was a notorious overseas supernatural organization, asked in surprise.
To this, Bai Yuling nodded and replied, “Yes, there is indeed one here. The black specters attacking me earlier were all summoned by him.”
“So there really is a Necromancer Association member here? What do they want in our Windbreak City?”
“I don’t know, but it’s certainly nothing good. Miss Si, you still haven’t answered my question.”
Reminded by Bai Yuling, Yan Qi realized she hadn’t answered the earlier question. She then put on an apologetic expression and said to Bai Yuling, “Oh, I’m so sorry, I got too caught up in other topics.”
“It’s fine, Miss Si. Please answer me quickly: can you deal with the Necromancer Association member or not?”
Urged by Bai Yuling and aware of the urgency of the situation, with people getting injured every second, Yan Qi quickly responded in a chuuni tone, “Chief Bai, as a beautiful shinigami roaming the mortal world, a mere supernatural being who only controls specters for combat is no match for me.”
“So you’re saying you’re confident you can handle the Necromancer Association member?” Hearing Yan Qi’s chuuni declaration, Bai Yuling furrowed her brows slightly and looked at her as she asked the follow-up question.
“Of course. As a beautiful shinigami roaming the world, I never lie to others,” Yan Qi replied, wearing a faint smile and patting her modestly sized chest as she looked at Bai Yuling with utmost seriousness.
Seeing Yan Qi’s earnest expression and feeling that she genuinely wasn’t lying, Bai Yuling let go of her doubts. She then looked at the black specters in the distance, who had regained their bearings and were now charging toward the two of them, and spoke rapidly, “In that case, I’ll leave dealing with the Necromancer Association member to you, Miss Si. My colleagues and I will do everything we can to create an opportunity for you.”
“Create an opportunity? Well, actually, you don’t need to specially create any opportunities for me.”
“If we don’t create an opportunity for you, Miss Si, how will you get past these black specters and confront the Necromancer Association member hiding behind the stone wall?” Not understanding Yan Qi’s words, Bai Yuling looked at her with some confusion.
Addressing Bai Yuling’s question, Yan Qi, confident in her own considerable power, replied with assurance, “Don’t worry, Chief Bai. They’re just a bunch of slightly oversized black specters. In the presence of this beautiful shinigami, they can’t cause even a ripple. If you don’t believe me, let me show you.”
With those words, not giving Bai Yuling any time to react, Yan Qi, now transformed into the beautiful shinigami, charged toward the black specters in the distance, wielding her giant black scythe.
“Miss Si, what are you doing? Come back quickly! These black specters can’t be killed!” Watching Yan Qi’s retreating figure, Bai Yuling, who knew these specters were indestructible, couldn’t help but call out anxiously, urging her to return.
Hearing Bai Yuling’s shout, Yan Qi didn’t respond. Maintaining her charging posture, she arrived in front of the black specter that had been pursuing Bai Yuling.
Seeing an unassuming prey suddenly charging straight at it, the black specter, having lost most of its humanity and retaining only some animalistic instincts, roared without a second thought and swung its large hand down at Yan Qi in attack.
“Quite a large hand, but unfortunately, it’s useless,” Yan Qi thought to herself as she watched the specter’s descending palm. She then forcefully stomped the ground, using her momentum to leap nearly two stories high, effortlessly dodging the black specter’s attack.
Not giving the black specter time to realize its attack had missed and adjust its stance—how could Yan Qi, now airborne, pass up such a perfect opportunity?—she raised the giant black scythe in her hands and brought it down in a slash from above.
In the next second, the black specter that had been attacking her was cleanly split in two by her single stroke.
“The black specter was cut in half? How is that possible!” Witnessing Yan Qi use her giant black scythe to cleave the previously physically immune black specter directly in two, Bai Yuling’s face showed an expression of utter astonishment. She simply couldn’t comprehend how Yan Qi had managed such a feat.
Having effortlessly split a black specter in two, Yan Qi instinctively opened her system interface to check the experience accumulation for her current transformed character.
Seeing that the experience bar hadn’t moved at all, Yan Qi realized that defeating the black specters didn’t grant any experience points. She felt a little disappointed, but it didn’t take long for her to adjust her mindset. She lifted her head and looked toward the other black specters being desperately held back by the remaining Special Affairs Bureau members.
Knowing what she needed to do now, Yan Qi said nothing. Gripping her giant black scythe, she sprinted toward the other black specters engaged with the Bureau members.
“Hmm? One of the black specters I control has disappeared? Could the supernaturalists of Windbreak City’s Special Affairs Bureau have destroyed it? No, that’s impossible. Black specters can’t be killed. And I just checked—there aren’t any particularly powerful individuals here in Windbreak City.”
