“Hmm, I see it, but how could such a powerful abyssal monster appear here?”
Hana, who had noticed the blood mist before Anderson, spoke with deep confusion.
“Never mind why it’s here—just take me there quickly! Otherwise, everyone on that ship will be devoured by that abyssal monster!” Anderson urged her impatiently.
Hana, unsurprised by his request, replied, “You want me to take you there? Are you insane?”
“I’m not insane. I just want to save people.”
“Save people? Against an abyssal monster of that level, you wouldn’t even be able to fight back. How do you plan to save anyone?”
“We won’t know unless we try.”
“We don’t need to try to know the outcome.”
Anderson fell silent for a moment but refused to give up. “Hana, please. If you take me there, I’ll agree to any condition you set.”
“Any condition? Really?”
“Of course.”
“Sigh… Fine. Since you’re saying that, I’ll reluctantly agree to take you. But remember—if you realize you’re no match for it, run straight to the open deck. I’ll cover your escape.”
“Thank you, Hana.”
Hearing his gratitude, Hana let out a quiet sigh before changing direction and carrying Anderson toward the warship under attack by the blood mist.
“Ahh! Help! Someone help!”
“Save me! I don’t want to die!”
“Mom… forgive me…”
“Die! Just die, you monster!”
As the blood mist engulfed the warship, it quickly turned into a living hell.
Many soldiers had no time to react before the invading mist enveloped them, draining their blood and leaving behind desiccated corpses. The remaining soldiers, witnessing their comrades’ gruesome fate, raised their weapons in desperate resistance—only to meet the same end moments later.
“Damn it! Abandon ship! ABANDON SHIP!”
Seeing the relentless advance of the blood mist, the captain knew staying meant certain death. He immediately ordered an evacuation.
Following his command, the crew rushed to the lifeboats, preparing to leave the now-deadly warship in groups.
But the moment the first lifeboat launched, the blood mist pursued it. Within minutes, every sailor aboard was reduced to a withered husk.
The captain’s face darkened. “Fall back! Everyone, return to the ship and take cover!”
In an instant, despair gripped every soul aboard.
“Damn it! A vampire baron this powerful… it must have emerged from a permanent abyssal rift. Where the hell did it come from?!”
General Ellen Poe slumped into his chair upon learning that his fleet was under attack by a Vampire Baron—a nightmarish abyssal monster.
Could it have come from that temporary abyss rift earlier? Impossible. A two-star Vampire Baron could never pass through such a rift.
“General, what should we do now?” James asked urgently.
“James, is the Superhuman Squad still receiving my orders?”
“All except Andrew. But, General, didn’t you say earlier that even combined, they’re no match for a Vampire Baron?”
“I did. But that doesn’t change my decision. Order them to board Warship 246 and work with the crew to stall the Vampire Baron—buy time for the rest of the fleet to retreat.”
“General… are you sacrificing the Superhuman Squad and Warship 246?”
“James, it’s the only option we have.”
“What if they refuse?”
“Then make them comply.”
“Understood.”
As a subordinate, James’s duty was to execute orders. Soon, Ellen Poe’s command reached the four remaining superhumans.
“‘Temporarily delay the Vampire Baron to cover the fleet’s retreat’—and they even brought up my mother?! This is blatant blackmail! They’re sending us to die! Those bastards!”
Hana, hovering near the warship and ready to evacuate Anderson at any moment, gritted her teeth in fury after receiving the order.
“Katie, did you get the same orders?” Sally asked.
Katie nodded grimly. “Yeah. Looks like we might not make it back today.”
“No way… I was planning to take leave and visit my grandma… Waaah!”
“Shh, don’t cry. I’ll stay with you, Sally.” Katie hugged her, her own expression bleak.
Meanwhile, Anderson, already aboard Warship 246, muttered under his breath:
“I knew the military was ruthless, but threatening my parents? That’s too much. If I survive this, I’m taking them and fleeing back to Saint Roma.”
Gripping his greatsword, he began searching for the Vampire Baron.
Stepping past shriveled corpses, Anderson followed the creature’s overwhelming aura until he found it feeding in a ship compartment.
“Take this!”
Knowing stealth was pointless, Anderson leaped out and unleashed his sacred light ability directly at the blood mist.
The attack hit—but due to the mist’s vast size, the damage was minimal.
Enraged by the strike, the Vampire Baron abandoned its half-drained victim and lunged at Anderson.
Realizing the cramped compartment put him at a severe disadvantage, Anderson bolted for the deck.
Within moments, he burst onto the open deck—
“MOVE!”
A teammate’s shout made him veer aside just as the blood mist surged from the exit.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Several arrows pierced the mist, their enchanted tips detonating in a massive explosion at the doorway.
