“Thank you for saving me, Your Majesty. If you hadn’t shown up, things would have been really bad for me today.”
After Daoist Empress appeared and Zhao Jing, who also recognized who she was, regained his freedom, he quickly walked over to her side to express his gratitude.
“You don’t need to thank me. If you really want to thank someone, you should thank Yan Qi. After all, I only came back here because she sent out a call for help.”
With an expressionless face and a cool, detached aura, Daoist Empress pointed towards Yan Qi, who was not far away, as she said this.
From the earlier conversation between Daoist Empress and Feng Wu, Zhao Jing already knew that Yan Qi and the Empress were acquainted. Although he didn’t quite understand how Yan Qi knew Daoist Empress, he realized that Yan Qi had indeed played a major role in his rescue. Without any hesitation, he turned to Yan Qi and thanked her.
“Thank you, Yan Qi. If it weren’t for you summoning Empress Daoyan, I probably would have swallowed those two buckets of Five Grains Reincarnation today.”
“It’s nothing. I just didn’t want someone who likes to stand up for what’s right, like you, to become disheartened from not receiving help from others.”
Yan Qi looked up and gave Zhao Jing a sweet smile.
“Stand up for what’s right? You know about what I did this morning?”
Hearing Yan Qi’s words, Zhao Jing asked, somewhat surprised.
“Yes, I know about you catching the thief this morning.”
“But how could you know? Other than my best friend, Liu Sheng, no one else in our class should know about that.”
“The reason I know is because I overheard the quiet conversation you had with your best friend earlier.”
Hearing Yan Qi’s explanation and remembering that she was now an superhuman, Zhao Jing’s expression instantly cleared as he understood.
“I see. No wonder you knew about me catching the thief this morning.”
After speaking to Yan Qi, Zhao Jing looked up towards Feng Wu, who was not far away, and the other street ruffians around them. Their legs had gone so weak after the Empress appeared that they couldn’t even run. Not quite sure how Yan Qi and Daoist Empress planned to deal with them, and not daring to ask the Empress directly, he continued by asking Yan Qi, who was in front of him.
“Classmate Yan Qi, what do you and Her Majesty plan to do with these superhuman street ruffians?”
Hearing this, Yan Qi, who had already had Hu Mengqing call the Abnormal Affairs Bureau, answered without hesitation.
“Of course, we’ll hand them over to the Abnormal Affairs Bureau to handle.”
“Hand them over to the Abnormal Affairs Bureau? That might not be so good, Classmate Yan Qi.”
Hearing Yan Qi say she would hand the ruffians over to the Bureau, Zhao Jing’s eyebrows furrowed involuntarily, and he then said this to her.
Hearing this, Yan Qi, who didn’t quite understand why he would say such a thing, had several question marks pop up above her head. She then asked Zhao Jing:
“Why do you think it’s not good for me to hand them over to the Abnormal Affairs Bureau?”
Hearing this, Zhao Jing answered without much thought:
“Well, that’s because the Abnormal Affairs Bureau, being an official organization, isn’t exactly made up of good people. Every superhuman they capture is either locked away in a pitch-black dungeon or sent to the science academy to be dissected and researched. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have said that handing these superhuman street ruffians over to them isn’t a good idea.”
After listening to Zhao Jing’s answer, Yan Qi wore a completely bewildered expression, utterly confused about how he had gotten such a mistaken impression of the Abnormal Affairs Bureau.
Holding this confusion, Yan Qi asked Zhao Jing:
“Classmate Zhao Jing, where did you hear that our country’s Abnormal Affairs Bureau does the things you mentioned?”
“Of course, I learned it online and in superhuman enthusiast chat groups.”
Hearing Zhao Jing’s reply, Yan Qi immediately felt somewhat speechless.
It took her a good while before she let out a sigh and spoke very seriously to Zhao Jing, who stood before her:
“Classmate Zhao Jing, the information you get online and in those groups is completely unreliable. Our country’s Abnormal Affairs Bureau does not do those things you mentioned. Unless you use your superhuman abilities to commit very serious crimes, given how busy the Bureau is nowadays, they wouldn’t even bother with you.”
After listening to Yan Qi’s words, this being the first time he had heard anyone speak well of the Abnormal Affairs Bureau, Zhao Jing couldn’t help but look surprised. But he still found it a little hard to believe, so he continued to ask Yan Qi:
“Classmate Yan Qi, is what you’re saying really true? The Abnormal Affairs Bureau truly won’t lock up superhumans like me, who haven’t committed any crimes, in pitch-black dungeons or send them to the science academy for dissection and research?”
Knowing that he still had doubts about what she had just said, Yan Qi replied:
“Everything I said is true. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the Empress standing beside you. See if she gives a different answer than I did.”
Seeing Yan Qi point towards Daoist Empress, who was standing nearby and had been watching him and Yan Qi the whole time, and still not quite daring to fully believe Yan Qi’s words, Zhao Jing mustered his courage and asked the Empress:
“Your Majesty, is everything my classmate just said true?”
To this, Yan Qi, controlling her human avatar, replied to Zhao Jing:
“Everything she said is true. The Abnormal Affairs Bureau is not as vicious and ruthless as you imagine.”
Getting this confirmation from Daoist Empress, and knowing that she was likely one of the most powerful superhumans in the world and wouldn’t deceive him, Zhao Jing finally believed the words Yan Qi had spoken earlier.
Noticing the change in expression on Zhao Jing’s face and realizing he now believed her, Yan Qi looked at him and asked:
“So, you believe me now, right?”
“Since Her Majesty says so, then I believe what you said is true.”
“Oh, by the way, Classmate Zhao Jing, how did you obtain your superhuman abilities?”
After completing the rescue mission, Yan Qi, feeling a bit curious about how Zhao Jing gained his powers, asked him this.
Hearing this, Zhao Jing thought back to the process of obtaining his abilities and quickly answered:
“How did I get my powers? Well, Classmate Yan Qi, I happened to run over an Abyssal Magical Beast while driving. I obtained its beast core, looked up some related information online, and then mustered the courage to swallow the core. That’s how I gained that Abyssal Magical Beast’s superhuman abilities.”
“Wait, before you swallowed that beast core, did you do anything to process it?”
“No, I didn’t process it at all. Is there a problem?”
