After saying her piece, Yan Qi didn’t spare the young Bureau member another glance.
She quickly turned and walked up to Bai Yuling, looking up at her as she asked, “Auntie Bai, can I ask you a few questions?”
Hearing that Yan Qi wanted to ask her some questions, and despite having just deeply felt from her released aura that she was a very powerful Three-Star Super, Bai Yuling knew this was her good friend’s daughter—a kind and lovely child. No strange expression crossed Bai Yuling’s face. As usual, she reached out and patted Yan Qi’s head, asking, “Of course, Xiao Qi. What did you want to ask? Hearing this, Yan Qi didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point. “Auntie Bai, have you found the suspect yet? I mean Liu Deli, the cook who got away last night?”
Hearing this, and knowing that Yan Qi had learned about this from Shen An’an, Bai Yuling wasn’t surprised. She quickly replied, “Not yet.”
“Is it possible the suspect has already fled Fengfang City?” Having gotten the answer to her first question, Yan Qi immediately followed up with a second.
To this, Bai Yuling, who had already notified sister departments to set up checkpoints on all major routes in and out of Fengfang City, and who hadn’t received any contact from them to the contrary, shook her head and answered, “The suspect hasn’t left Fengfang City. Our sister departments have secured all the main transportation routes in and out of the city. The moment he shows his face anywhere, they, or our own agents, will apprehend him immediately.”
Confirming that the suspect, Liu Deli, was still within the city and hadn’t escaped, Yan Qi got her second answer and proceeded to her third question. “Auntie Bai, are you currently visiting people who know the suspect, trying to figure out where he’s hiding now?”
Bai Yuling nodded at this, a hint of frustration in her voice. “Yes, we are indeed doing what you said. But unfortunately, after all this work, we haven’t managed to find even a single trace of the suspect so far.”
Hearing the discouragement in Bai Yuling’s tone, and having gotten her third answer, Yan Qi offered some consolation while asking her final question. “Auntie Bai, you’ve done a great job as the Bureau Chief. By the way, are you about to go visit the next person on the list who knows the suspect?”
Hearing this, Bai Yuling answered without much thought, “Yes. If I hadn’t needed to wait for you at the previous location, and if you hadn’t been so determined to teach our young colleague a lesson, we would probably already be at the last known associate’s house by now.”
With the answer to her final question, Yan Qi said to Bai Yuling, “That’s about what I thought. So, let me and a new friend I recently met through someone work together to help you solve this.”
“A new friend? Xiao Qi, who is this new friend you’re talking about?” Just as Bai Yuling was feeling puzzled about who Yan Qi meant, a familiar, chuunibyou-filled voice reached her ears, and those of the other Bureau members present.
“Of course, it is I! She who lurks in the shadows, wielder of the giant scythe of death, reaper of souls and sin, the one and only beautiful shinigami of this world—Si Yexing!”
Recognizing the owner of that voice, and thinking about what had recently happened to Yan Qi, Bai Yuling’s face instantly lit up with understanding. She then looked up, along with everyone else, in the direction the voice had come from.
Soon, a beautiful girl with purple hair and purple eyes came into view. She was wearing a black cloak over a very pretty purple-and-white Lolita dress, and she held a massive scythe, standing about 2.5 meters tall, that belonged uniquely to her.
“Who are you?” Seeing the shinigami beauty, Si Yexing, suddenly appear before them, and because she was a transformation card Yan Qi had only recently drawn—thus having very low public recognition—all the Bureau members except Bai Yuling, who had met her once before, looked at her with wary eyes. The seasoned Bureau member was the first to speak, asking her this question.
“Who am I? Did I not already graciously introduce myself to you pitiful ordinary folks a moment ago?” Si Yexing replied.
“You introduced yourself before?” The seasoned Bureau member, who hadn’t understood her extremely chuuni self-introduction at all and saw her as a threat, asked, confused.
Before Si Yexing could answer him, Shen An’an, standing not far from him, spoke up on her behalf. “She did introduce herself earlier. It’s just that you’re a bit too old, colleague, to have understood her introduction.”
“Have I really gotten that old?” the seasoned colleague remarked with a touch of melancholy upon hearing Shen An’an’s words.
Ignoring her colleague’s moment of reflection, Shen An’an continued with his original line of questioning. “What is your purpose for being here?”
“My purpose? To purge the evils of this world, of course! Why else would I, a shinigami, accept someone’s request to come here and handle such a trivial little matter?”
“Really? I get the feeling you might not be telling us the whole truth…” Hearing Si Yexing’s answer, the young Bureau member, who felt something was a bit off, couldn’t help but ask another question.
Hearing this, Yan Qi, who was secretly controlling her avatar to converse with everyone, couldn’t help but look at the young Bureau member with a slightly higher opinion. But she quickly averted her gaze from him.
