“Don’t worry, everyone. I, the God of Death, am still here, am I not?”
From the initial encounter with the monster to now, as it awakened the corpses slumbering in the cemetery, Si Yexing—who hadn’t made much of a move until this point—noticed the change in expressions on the faces of the Bureau members, including Bai Yuling. Knowing they were deeply concerned about the current situation, she spoke up to comfort them, hoping to help them stay as calm as possible.
“Miss Yexing, can you handle these corpses that have crawled out of their graves?”
Hearing Si Yexing’s words, and knowing she was from the Free Life Association and a very powerful superhuman, Bai Yuling—who wasn’t sure of her exact level—asked this while remaining vigilant of the monster standing not far away.
In response, Yan Qi (controlling the avatar), who was perfectly clear that the strength of this avatar was equivalent to a peak Three-Star superhuman, answered Bai Yuling with confidence.
“Not just these deceased crawling from beneath the graves. Even including that twisted, deformed monster in front of you, I, the God of Death, could annihilate them all effortlessly.”
“Really? Miss Yexing, where is such confidence coming from?”
Hearing Si Yexing’s supremely confident reply, Bai Yuling couldn’t help but ask curiously.
“Of course, it’s because I, the God of Death, possess power that you mortals could never obtain—power that makes demons tremble, immortals and gods quake, and stands unrivaled under heaven.”
After giving this rather chuuni-style answer to Bai Yuling, and knowing she wouldn’t believe it so easily—and also well aware that if she didn’t act soon, these Bureau members would be in danger—Yan Qi quickly controlled her avatar to release the aura of a peak Three-Star superhuman. Then, in one swift dash, she charged towards the nearby monster.
Feeling the aura emanating from Si Yexing, Bai Yuling—learning for the first time that she was also a peak Three-Star superhuman—couldn’t help but show a look of surprise on her face, murmuring to herself,
“I knew members of your Free Life Association were all extraordinary, but I didn’t expect just anyone you send out to be a Three-Star superhuman either!”
While Bai Yuling was muttering to herself in a daze, Si Yexing had already arrived before the monster.
Sensing something highly threatening had come close, the monster immediately swung one of its forelimbs, smashing it towards Si Yexing.
Looking at the monster’s fist, larger than a punching bag, Si Yexing knew that taking this hit wouldn’t kill her, but it certainly wouldn’t be pleasant. She instantly evaded.
A simple leap both dodged the attack and carried her into the air.
Looking down at the monster from above, Si Yexing immediately swung the Death Scythe in her hands and slashed down at it without hesitation.
Sensing the danger from above, but unable to move to dodge due to the recoil from its previous action, the monster could only watch helplessly as the scythe in Yan Qi’s hands fell upon its body, slicing away half of its shoulder.
It was at this moment that Si Yexing, holding the Death Scythe, swiftly and decisively activated her skill, ‘Soul Reap,’ hoping to directly extract the monster’s soul using this method, forcing it and the corpses it awakened from the cemetery to all stop.
However, after Si Yexing activated her skill, a rare look of surprise appeared on her usually confident face, as if she had discovered something truly unexpected.
“What’s going on? Why can’t I extract this monster’s soul?”
After activating the skill but failing to extract the target’s soul—encountering this situation for the first time—Si Yexing couldn’t help but think this to herself.
Having half its shoulder sliced off by Si Yexing, and though it had suffered many injuries today, this was the first time it felt pain of this magnitude. The monster couldn’t help but let out a loud, agonized wail.
Immediately after, it swung its other intact forelimb, swatting at Si Yexing.
Seeing this, Si Yexing quickly pulled her Death Scythe free from its body and leapt backward forcefully, narrowly avoiding the monster’s attack.
After forcing Si Yexing away from its side, the monster—now having suffered three heavy blows in succession—found its mobility greatly impaired.
If it still wanted to obey the instinct within its heart to kill humans and continue fighting this group, it would need to find a way to recover from its injuries.
Thinking this, the monster turned its gaze towards the corpses it had awakened from the cemetery, influenced by the supernatural power it had released—power that didn’t originally belong to it.
So, before Si Yexing—who had just attacked it—could readjust her stance for another assault, it abandoned her and ran towards the direction from which the horde of corpses was surging.
“Why is that monster running away from us? Could it be… scared?”
While continuously attacking the corpses surrounding them with their weapons alongside his colleague, the young Bureau member—who had noticed the situation with Si Yexing and Bai Yuling—subconsciously muttered.
Also noticing the situation over there, but faced with the densely packed corpses crawling from the graves—their bodies writhing with maggots, a disgusting sight—the seasoned Bureau member had no mind to worry about that side. He hurriedly said to his colleague beside him,
“Don’t worry about the Director and Miss Yexing over there. Focus on dealing with these corpses in front of us. Even though they’ve been dead for a long time, influenced by that inexplicable supernatural power, their physical abilities have reached the level of us One-Star superhumans. If we’re not careful, we could die here too.”
Hearing his colleague’s words and realizing now wasn’t the time to be distracted, the young Bureau member quickly refocused his attention on the corpses before him. At the same time, he prayed in his heart that no major mishap would occur with Si Yexing and Bai Yuling; otherwise, they truly might die here today.
“Miss Yexing, that monster seems to be fleeing out of fear of your power.”
Noticing the monster’s movement, Bai Yuling—who had been standing by ready to join the fight—hurriedly called out to Si Yexing.
Hearing this, Si Yexing—who had just disengaged and hadn’t finished readjusting—quickly looked up towards the monster sprinting headlong down the path from which the corpses were swarming, her brow furrowing slightly.
