“Director Guo! President Guo!”
Witnessing Guo Liangming and Guo Liangzhi both fall from the shattered window, Wang Shuquan’s face drained of color in shock. After exclaiming those words, he rushed to the now glassless window and leaned out to look down.
The sight of a stark, vivid red color splashed on the ground below told him his boss and his brother were gone for good.
Seeing this scene unfold before her, Ji Zige, who had been standing to the side enjoying the spectacle, also couldn’t help but look stunned for a moment.
“So, both those vampires fell to their deaths. Heavens, it seems you’re not completely blind after all.”
Remembering her earlier, silent wish for a more dramatic show, Ji Zige couldn’t suppress a slight upward curve at the corner of her mouth, a faint smile appearing on her face as she secretly thought to herself.
——-
Not long after the Guo brothers plummeted from their company’s headquarters building…
Yan Qi, who had lied about accidentally learning from her sister’s friend that the suspect Han Xiaohu wasn’t at his current residence but was instead at the Daheng Realty headquarters building planning something, had convinced Zhao Liang to drive back here.
Now, looking at the human remains on the ground emitting a thick, coppery scent of blood, Yan Qi couldn’t help but show a slightly nauseated expression.
Having also witnessed the gruesome scene and realizing this was no sight for a child, Zhao Liang quickly stepped in front of Yan Qi, shielding her from the view of the human debris and the eye-stinging crimson stain.
“Xiao Qi, this scene is still too much for you. Maybe you should wait back in the car.”
Hearing Zhao Liang’s suggestion, Yan Qi, who felt more disgust than fear towards the corpses, quickly replied, “No, Brother Zhao Liang. This little scene? It’s a bit gross, sure, but I’m not so scared that I can’t even look.”
“You sure?” Zhao Liang asked, half-convinced, half-doubting.
In response, Yan Qi, who knew herself well, nodded seriously at him. “I’m sure. Otherwise, the moment I saw those… pieces on the ground, I would have been vomiting from fright already.”
Getting her answer and seeing her earnest expression, Zhao Liang knew she wasn’t lying. He didn’t press further.
But that didn’t mean he would let her witness the bloody scene firsthand.
With Zhao Liang deliberately blocking her view, Yan Qi soon followed him into the Daheng Realty headquarters building. They took the elevator up to the thirty-second floor, to the location of the Chairman’s office.
“Oh, you’re here?”
Sensing her original body’s approach and already knowing who was outside before they even entered, Ji Zige turned her head towards the door and spoke.
Hearing an unfamiliar voice from inside the office, Zhao Liang initially looked puzzled, unsure who was speaking. Then, remembering what Yan Qi had mentioned earlier about one of her sister’s friends being in the Chairman’s office, his expression cleared with understanding.
Without further hesitation, he pushed open the office door and walked right in with Yan Qi.
The scene inside the office was chaos. Security guards were frozen in blocks of ice, immobilized. The suspect, Han Xiaohu, lay unconscious on the floor. Wang Shuquan sat by the shattered window, muttering incessantly to himself. And standing on a clean patch of carpet was Ji Zige, her hair tied up in two signature ponytails.
Even though he had handled many cases involving supernatural powers, Zhao Liang was still seeing a situation like this for the first time. He couldn’t help but pause for a moment, taken aback.
But he quickly recovered, cleared his throat, and walked over to Yan Qi’s doppelganger, Ji Zige. Looking at the girl who appeared to be only eighteen or nineteen, he asked softly, “Miss, are you Ji Zige, the one Xiao Qi mentioned?”
Hearing Zhao Liang’s question, which she had fully expected, Ji Zige looked up at him, nodded, and said, “I am Ji Zige. And you must be the Anomaly Affairs Bureau member on today’s task with Xiao Qi?”
After answering his question, she immediately followed up with one of her own. Zhao Liang quickly replied, “Yes, I’m Zhao Liang, from the Anomaly Affairs Bureau, working with Xiao Qi today. I hope you can cooperate with our investigation, Miss Ji.”
“Cooperate? Of course, no problem at all.”
Hearing his request, Ji Zige didn’t hesitate for a second and nodded readily.
Though he had guessed she wouldn’t refuse, Zhao Liang’s face still relaxed into a slight smile upon hearing her answer. He then continued, “In that case, Miss Ji, could you please tell me exactly what happened here?”
In response, Ji Zige took a moment to gather her thoughts, then looked at him seriously and began, “Well, it was like this…”
As Ji Zige narrated the events, Zhao Liang quickly grasped what had transpired earlier in the office and understood the reason behind the Guo brothers’ sudden fall from the window. He then said to Ji Zige, “I see. So that’s how it was. Thank you for your intervention, Miss Ji. Otherwise, Fengfang City might have had another major supernatural incident on its hands today.”
“It’s nothing. Just doing what I should,” Ji Zige replied with a smile.
“By the way, Miss Ji,” Zhao Liang continued, glancing at the unconscious man on the floor, whose face was so battered from Ji Zige’s punches that his original features were barely recognizable, “the suspect Han Xiaohu you subdued earlier… is that him lying there unconscious?”
Without even turning her head to look at Han Xiaohu, knowing exactly who he meant, Ji Zige answered, “Yes. That unconscious person on the floor is Han Xiaohu, the suspect you’re here to arrest today.”
