Gender Swap: I’m About to Transform Using a Card! Chapter 38

“Alright, let’s go home. But before that, there are a few things we need to take care of first,” Yan Zhenyi said, agreeing with Yan Qi’s suggestion.

“Dad, what else do we need to do?”

“I have to report the situation to my superiors. After that, our whole family should go to the hospital for a check-up—just to make sure everything’s okay. Once that’s done, we can head home together.”

“Oh, got it. Should we leave now?”

“Right now.”

After exchanging a glance with Li Caifeng, Yan Zhenyi led the way, and the family of three left together.

Watching the reunited Yan family, the other children—who had also been separated from their parents during the terrorist attack—couldn’t help but hope their own parents would come for them too.

Sadly, most of them would never see their parents again.

Just as the Yan family was about to leave Longyuan Elementary, a figure suddenly darted out from the side of the street.

Before Yan Zhenyi or Yan Qi could react, the person grabbed Li Caifeng’s hands tightly, speaking in an excited and relieved voice.

“Caifeng! Thank goodness I found you! You have no idea how worried I was!”

Though they hadn’t seen each other in person for years, Li Caifeng recognized her immediately.

“Yuling? What are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to be on the train?”

“Never mind why I’m here instead of on the train—are you hurt anywhere?”

Even though Shen An’an had already assured her that Li Caifeng hadn’t been injured in the supernatural terrorist attack, Bai Yuling still couldn’t help but ask. She circled Li Caifeng, inspecting her carefully.

“Alright, Yuling, relax. I’m fine—just a little shaken up, that’s all,” Li Caifeng said, trying to calm her down.

Hearing this and confirming that Li Caifeng really wasn’t hurt, Bai Yuling finally let out a sigh of relief.

“That’s good. If you’d been injured, I would’ve been devastated.”

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she added apologetically,

“I’m so sorry, Caifeng. If I hadn’t asked you to pick me up at the station, you wouldn’t have gotten caught up in something so dangerous.”

“You don’t need to apologize. No one could’ve predicted a terrorist attack at the train station today.”

“Still, I feel terrible. How about I treat you to a big meal to help you relax?”

“Really, Yuling, it’s not necessary.”

Listening to the conversation between her mother and this unfamiliar woman, Yan Qi quickly pieced together who Bai Yuling was. Seeing her mother struggling to dissuade Bai Yuling from apologizing, Yan Qi decided to step in.

“Mom, is this the college classmate you were supposed to pick up at the station today—Aunt Bai Yuling?”

Hearing Yan Qi’s voice, both Li Caifeng and Bai Yuling turned their attention to her.

“Yes, this is my college roommate, your Aunt Bai Yuling.”

“Hello, Aunt Bai.”

“Hello, Caifeng. Your little girl is adorable!”

Noticing Yan Qi’s beautiful white hair, Bai Yuling immediately recognized her as her best friend’s youngest daughter and couldn’t help but praise her.

“She’s one of the two children I’m most proud of,” Li Caifeng said, crouching down to hug Yan Qi.

“Xiao Qi, do you remember me?” Bai Yuling asked.

Yan Qi, who had no memories of her, shook her head.

“Sorry, I don’t remember anything about you, Aunt Bai.”

“Eh? How come? I even flew all the way from the capital to see you when you were born!”

Poking Yan Qi’s chubby cheeks, Bai Yuling looked puzzled.

Li Caifeng rolled her eyes.

“You’ve only been to Fangfeng City a handful of times since she was born. It’s no surprise she doesn’t recognize you.”

“Oh… right, I really haven’t visited much.”

“Mom, don’t forget what we still need to do,” Yan Qi said, dodging Bai Yuling’s increasingly enthusiastic finger-poking.

“Oh, I almost forgot. Sorry, Yuling, but our family needs to go to the hospital now, so we can’t stay and chat.”

“The hospital? Why are you going there?”

“For check-ups, of course. All three of us were caught up in the terrorist attack at the station. Even my husband was seriously injured earlier.”

“Your husband was badly hurt? But he looks fine?”

Bai Yuling glanced at Yan Zhenyi, who stood beside Li Caifeng, but couldn’t spot any injuries.

Li Caifeng quickly summarized what had happened in the train station waiting room.

After hearing the story, Bai Yuling’s expression shifted to surprise, and she looked at Yan Zhenyi with newfound respect.

“I never expected you to charge into the waiting room to save Caifeng in such a dangerous situation. Turns out I was right to trust you with her back then.”

“Ahaha, thanks for the praise.”

Realizing that the family really did need to go for medical checks, Bai Yuling nodded understandingly.

“Since you’re busy with the hospital, I won’t keep you any longer.”

“Thanks for understanding. Once everything settles down, we’ll prepare a proper welcome dinner for you.”

“I appreciate that. And don’t refuse my apology dinner again!”

“I already said, you don’t need to apologize.”

“Yeah, Aunt Bai, what happened at the station wasn’t your fault at all. You don’t owe Mom an apology.”

Yan Qi grinned mischievously.

“But if you just want to treat our family to a nice meal, I’m sure Mom won’t say no!”
