Lei Gong stared at the distant Daoyan, swallowing hard, yet he couldn’t shake the feeling that the stunning beauty before him looked familiar—like he’d seen her somewhere before.
But he didn’t dwell on it for long. Quickly wiping the dumbstruck look off his face, he turned toward Yan Qi and her group with a menacing glare and demanded:
“Care to tell me who the hell just ambushed me?”
Unfazed by the threat of a mere One-Star peak superhuman, Yan Qi calmly directed her clone, Daoyan, to step forward. Standing protectively in front of her true self, Daoyan replied coldly:
“That was me. Got a problem with that?”
Hearing this, Lei Gong froze for a moment before bursting into laughter, as if he’d just heard the funniest joke in the world.
“You? Hahaha! Oh, that’s rich! Listen, gorgeous, if you’re gonna lie, at least make it believable. With those skinny arms and legs, there’s no way you’re the one who sent me flying into a wall!”
Behind Daoyan, Yan Qi—now in her fox-loli form—frowned in irritation. The urge to sic her clone on him and teach him a lesson was strong, but she held back.
This might be the perfect chance to test out my newly learned Golden Light Barrier in combat, she thought, suppressing her impulse.
Stepping out from behind Daoyan, she faced Lei Gong directly.
“From the sound of it, you don’t believe Daoyan was the one who knocked you flying?”
Lei Gong’s laughter died as he took in the petite figure before him—fox ears, tail, and all. The taunting tone in her voice made his brow furrow.
“What kind of role-playing brat are you supposed to be?”
A smirk tugged at Yan Qi’s lips. He took the bait so easily.
Putting on an offended expression, she snapped:
“Brat? Who are you calling a brat?”
Still convinced she was just a low-level superhuman, Lei Gong sneered.
“You, obviously. Brat.”
Instead of getting angrier, Yan Qi chuckled.
“Oh, you’ve got guts. Alright then—Daoyan, stand down. I’ll handle this idiot myself.”
She shot a glance at her clone.
“Just don’t kill him. The Supernatural Affairs Bureau might need him for questioning.”
“Understood. I’ll hold back.”
With that bit of theater out of the way, Yan Qi began advancing toward Lei Gong.
Unaware of her true strength, Lei Gong scoffed and flicked his wrist, sending a crackling arc of lightning straight at her.
Watching the electricity streak toward Yan Qi, Ma Fangfang—who had seen this very attack obliterate her front door earlier—panicked.
“Dodge it! Don’t let that hit you!”
But whether Yan Qi didn’t hear or simply didn’t care, the bolt struck her dead-on.
Ma Fangfang squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the worst.
“H-How?! You were hit! You should be—!”
Lei Gong’s voice was laced with disbelief, snapping Ma Fangfang’s eyes back open.
What she saw left her stunned.
Yan Qi stood unharmed, her entire body encased in a shimmering golden aura—like a little golden statue.
How is she completely unscathed?!
Yan Qi, meanwhile, was too focused on the golden barrier around her to notice Ma Fangfang’s shock.
Despite the attack, the glow had only weakened slightly.
A satisfied grin spread across her face.
No wonder the Golden Light Barrier is considered one of the world’s top defensive spells. Even at beginner level, it can tank a One-Star peak superhuman’s attack. I’ll have to train harder to master it.
Putting the thought aside, she smirked at Lei Gong, who was staring at her in utter shock.
“What’s wrong? Surprised a ‘brat’ can block your baby-rattle level attacks?”
“You—! You’re mocking me?! DIE!”
Enraged, Lei Gong unleashed a relentless barrage of lightning bolts.
Yet no matter how many strikes landed, Yan Qi didn’t falter. Step by step, she closed the distance.
Dammit! What kind of power does she have?! How is she still standing?!
Sweat beaded on Lei Gong’s forehead as he desperately tried—and failed—to stop her advance.
“Alright, game’s over. Bye-bye, loser.”
Yan Qi yawned, flicking a fox ear lazily before delivering a swift punch straight to his gut.
“Urk—!”
Before he could even react, Lei Gong was sent flying once more.
