“Taken for research?” After his initial surprise, Su Mo immediately found it quite logical.
From an objective standpoint, that would indeed further humanity’s understanding of the world.
Su Mo asked, “Do you know where the people who took your friend went?”
“Right here on this island. But they’ve locked themselves inside a huge cage. I can’t get in, and I don’t dare to,” the fierce monkey replied with a look of despair.
Must be a secure base, Su Mo thought. It seems some research team is conducting studies here. But if that’s the case, why would the Talent Camp still allow trainees to come here for experience?
Su Mo hesitated, considering whether he should go and investigate.
“Oh, and they also use their own kind as test subjects. I overheard them saying it’s to develop a drug that makes people stronger,” the monkey added.
Su Mo stared intently into the fierce monkey’s eyes, uncertain how much of its story was true.
This big guy in front of him was incredibly clever. An ordinary monkey, after such experiences, would likely harbor deep hatred for all humans. But this one was different; it could actually speak to him calmly and rationally.
“How can I trust what you’re saying?” Su Mo got straight to the point.
The fierce monkey thought for a moment, then plucked a tuft of fur from the back of its head. Su Mo instinctively thought it was going to blow on it…
Instead, it handed the tuft to Su Mo. “My fur can guide you. If you don’t believe me, you can go see for yourselves.”
Su Mo gave a slight smile. “Of course I believe you. So let’s go together. Lead the way.”
Da Sha, perched nearby, blinked, a bit confused by the exchange between these two. Why did their conversation sound so pointless?
So hard for a bird to understand, it thought.
The fierce monkey, overjoyed, immediately took off running ahead, occasionally grabbing vines to swing on. Its muscular body moved with surprising agility through the forest, looking almost comical.
How to describe it?
Think of the cartoon bears… yeah, just like that…
Su Mo, having a mount, had no trouble keeping up. They soon reached the heart of the dense forest, where a vast swamp bubbled and gurgled.
Su Mo frowned. Toss a cigarette butt here right now, and life would blossom like a firework.
“You said there was a big cage?” Su Mo asked suspiciously, wondering if the monkey had ulterior motives. But since he was already here, he hadn’t expected everything it said to be true.
“Wait a moment,” the monkey said. It swung on a vine and expertly landed on a short tree.
The tree was only about seven or eight meters tall but had a diameter of two or three meters—more accurately, it was a massive tree stump.
The monkey tapped around on the stump, seemingly searching for something. Su Mo watched from a distance atop Da Sha.
Suddenly, the monkey’s eyes lit up. “Found it!”
There was actually a hidden magic array on this tree stump!
Su Mo observed it carefully and found the array quite complex, requiring someone with considerable knowledge of arrays to solve it. Su Mo leaped lightly, landing gracefully on the stump.
“I can give it a try. But you’d better behave while I do. If you annoy me, the consequences will be far worse than me just not helping you,” Su Mo warned before starting, his murderous gaze making the fierce monkey shudder.
This human is terrifying!
Su Mo applied his knowledge of magic arrays to attempt a cracking. In less than two minutes, he succeeded.
He had only meant to try, but he actually did it.
He was impressed with himself.
So my proficiency with arrays has already reached this level.
Once the array was broken, the surrounding space began to warp, and a wave of dizziness washed over him.
Su Mo was startled. “This seems to be a spatial teleportation array. Although it’s a lower-grade one, it’s perfectly functional for short-distance transport.”
His vision returned to normal. Su Mo found himself in a high-tech corridor and immediately realized he had truly arrived at a secret laboratory base.
His heart sank. Would a powerful being suddenly appear and obliterate me?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, a metallic grinding sound echoed from one end of the corridor.
Su Mo focused and saw it was a robot.
It was roughly the size of an average human, but its face had only one eye, and its arms were exceptionally long—the kind that could score a perfect on a sit-and-reach test while standing.
He spotted the robot at the same moment it detected him.
The robot suddenly broke into a sprint, moving extremely fast. As it ran, its single eye shot out a blue beam of light, looking incredibly impressive.
Su Mo thought, This is bad. I’ve probably stumbled into some major faction’s secret base. I’ll be lucky to escape with my life.
He wondered if it could be a secret base of Xia Country, especially since the animals here understood Chinese. But he quickly dismissed the idea; if that were the case, Yang Jie wouldn’t have chosen this place for their training expedition.
Su Mo dodged left and right, running toward the other end. Unexpectedly, several fully armed soldiers charged out from that direction. The moment they saw Su Mo, they opened fire without hesitation.
Su Mo activated his Seed Jade Art, tightening every muscle. Combined with the enhancement from the Golden Skin Fruit earlier, he managed to block the hail of bullets with his body.
With a whoosh, Su Mo shot forward like an arrow, knocking over a dozen soldiers. “Let me explain—” he began.
Before he could finish his sentence, another squad of soldiers rushed forward and opened fire without a word.
Their firearms were highly advanced, more so than those the American forces had used during the battle in Star City.
Su Mo’s face darkened. “Since you won’t give me a chance to explain, don’t blame me for being heavy-handed.”
These soldiers were all around D-rank in strength, formidable even in close combat. But against Su Mo’s Skull-Crushing Hand, not even their helmets could withstand being shattered to pieces.
The robot reached Su Mo’s side at that moment, its two long arms transforming into blades that swept down fiercely toward him.
Uncertain of the robot’s capabilities, Su Mo didn’t dare to meet the attack head-on. He could only evade and probe its虚实.
Suddenly, a gust of wind brushed past his ear. The fierce monkey, after crushing a few soldiers, turned and landed a powerful punch on the robot’s head.
The heavy blow didn’t deal fatal damage. The metal head simply bent backward ninety degrees, neatly avoiding the impact.
By now, both the fierce monkey and Da Sha had been hit by bullets, their bodies covered in blood. Although Su Mo wasn’t bleeding, his entire body ached terribly.
“Looks like there’s no choice!” A hint of crimson flickered in Su Mo’s eyes. The terrifying aura emanating from him made both Da Sha and the fierce monkey instinctively glance his way.
“A robot, huh? Let’s see just how hard your head really is!”
A slender, jade-like hand “gently” pressed against the robot’s metal head, producing creaking and cracking sounds.
But that was all.
“Again!” Su Mo’s right hand, gripping the robot’s head, became coated in a layer of black energy—purified Yin Fire.
He inverted his body above the robot’s head, his fingers exerting force while he continuously dodged the dual blades in the robot’s hands.
Suddenly, a bang echoed. The robot’s head shattered under Su Mo’s grip. The black flames had already incinerated everything inside, including its control system.
Su Mo performed a backflip and landed steadily. The black Yin Fire cleansed the residue from his hand. Domineering confidence shone in his eyes as his red lips parted slightly:
“Is that all you’ve got?”
